PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing polyvinyl alcohol based resin pellet which is useful for melt molding and also with which a molded product excellent in water solubility and coloring resistance can be obtained. SOLUTION: Water/alcohol mixed solution of polyvinyl alcohol based resin is extruded in a strand state in a solidifying bath having a solidification liquid of 9.3 to 14.4 (cal<1/2> .cm<-3/2> ) in solubility parameter [δ] and the obtained strand is cut to obtain the polyvinyl alcohol based resin pellet.
