PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive apparatus for washing root vegetables capable of effectively carrying out operation such as mud removing or washing of the various kinds of root vegetables having different diameters and shapes. SOLUTION: This apparatus for washing the root vegetables G is obtained by dipping lower parts 7a of rotating brushes 7 installed side by side in wash water L, using upper parts 7b of the rotating brushes 7 as a transfer passage T of the root vegetables G, installing pressing brushes 19 at a holding interval D of the root vegetables G in the upper part of a nearly half width W of the transfer passage T and freely shakingly hanging and supporting hanging screenlike washing members 31 in the direction of the transfer passage T at a prescribed interval X in the upper part of the nearly residual half width V of the transfer passage T.
