PURPOSE:To provide a (meth)acrylamide cation-modified copolymer containing ethylene structure units, ester structure units, carboxylic acid structure units and quaternary ammonium salt group-containing amide structure units in the molecule and giving a composition excellent in compatibility and strength by blevding a thermoplastic resin there with. CONSTITUTION:A raw material polymer containing 97.9-65mol.% of ethylene structure units of formula I, 1-15mol.% of ester structure units of formula II (R is H, methyl; R<2> is 1-4C alkyl) and 1.1-37mol.% of carboxylic acid structural units of formula III in the molecule is amidated with a diamine (e.g. N,N-dimethylaminoethylamine) of formula IV (R<2> is 2-8C alkylene; R<3>, R<4> are 1-4C alkyl) 111 an amount of 0.7-0.99 time mole based on the carboxyl groups of the structural units of formula III, and subsequently quaternized with a quaternizing agent of formula R<5>-X (R<5> is 1-18C alkyl, etc.; X is halogen, etc.,) in an amount of 1 time mole based on the tertiary amino group to produce the objective copolymer giving a composition excellent in compatibility and strength by blending a thermoplastic resin therewith. |
