PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a very small recording mark onto a magneto-optical recording medium. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording and reproducing device is provided with: a recording beam emission section 10 that emits a recording beam with a wavelength absorbed more by a recording layer than by a reproduction layer to one side of a magneto-optical recording medium 15 where the recording layer for recording information, the reproduction layer for reproducing information, an auxiliary layer assisting magnetic transfer of the information from the recording layer to the reproduction layer are at least provided and the auxiliary layer is provided between the recording layer and the reproduction layer; a magnetic field application section 16 that applies an external magnetic field to the other side of the magneto-optical recording medium 15; a reproduction beam emission section 11 that emits a reproduction beam with a wavelength absorbed more by the reproduction layer rather than by the recording layer to the one side of the magneto-optical recording medium 15; and a reflected reproduction beam detection section 2 that detects a reproduction beam reflected by the magneto-optical recording medium 15.
