PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a hexagonal ferrite suitable for a magnetic recording medium in which stacking of minute hexagonal ferrite is prevented and preferable dispersibility is obtained and to provide a magnetic recording medium from the obtained hexagonal ferrite so that the medium can have excellent short wavelength output and C/N with low medium noise even when the medium is replayed by using an MR head. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the hexagonal ferrite, a hexagonal ferrite having 10 to 40 nm average particle size and 135 to 400 kA/m coercive force Hc is treated with an organic compound and or its salts containing polar groups with <=4 acid dissociation constant (pKa) when the ferrite is to be collected and cleaned. The ferrite is used for the magnetic recording medium. |
