PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the performance of an image processor conducting original read processing by reading image data of originals one page by one page while carrying the originals on the image read section one by one in an original skimming-through mode, storing the read image data to a non-use area of a buffer memory, compressing the image data, storing the compressed image data in a compressed image memory and releasing the stored area of the image data in the buffer memory to be the non-use area after that. SOLUTION: The capacity of the buffer memory is made to store image data of original comprising a plurality of pages and original read processing in a continuous original skimming-through mode is applied to the original where a DF(Draft Feed means) is continuously operated. In this case, when the capacity of non-use areas of the buffer memory reaches a predetermined threshold value or below, the DF is stopped to interrupt the original skimming-through mode (S104, S105). When the capacity of the non-use areas becomes greater than the threshold value, the DF is again operated (S109) and the processing is restarted.
