PURPOSE: Provided are a device and a method for saving water in a toilet bowl, thus automatically controlling the discharge amount of water by dividing the kinds of feces. CONSTITUTION: The device for saving water in a toilet bowl comprises a part(110,120) for receiving/sending infrared rays reflected from a human body; an infrared driver for controlling the driving of the receiving/sending part; a distance sensitivity adjusting part(140) for adjusting a receiving sensitivity of infrared rays; a signal detecting part(150) for converting and amplifying signals from the distance sensitivity adjusting part; a control part(200); and a sound generating driver(160); and a motor driver(180) for adjusting an opening/closing time of a water discharge valve. The control part drives an inner timer as soon as the human body being detected, and generates a first control signal for the generation of sound after a first predetermined time being passed, and a second control signal for controlling the amount of water according to the kinds of feces, and a third control signal for displaying detected condition.
