PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a Viterbi calculation method to data error correction in a full response channel system that does not have an ISI influence. SOLUTION: This data error correcting method is used in the full response channel system, obtains a read signal from recording media and also converts the read signal into bit data, and the bit data are recorded on the recording media such as a DVD disk in an NRZI format. A Viterbi detection method decides whether or not bit state conversion in the bit data occurs within a prescribed continuous length limitation section, and if violation is made in conversion occurrence within the prescribed continuous length limitation section, the bit value of bit state conversion that occurs within the prescribed continuous length limitation section of the bit data is corrected.
