An olefinic cpd. is reacted with an alkylatable aromatic cpd. in an alkylation zone, in the presence of BF3 and a water-free inorganic oxide modified by BF3. The resulting mixture is mixed with products from a dealkylating zone, and then fractionated to give some unreacted aromatic cpd., the required monoalkylated product, and BF3. At least part of the unreacted cpd. is recycled to the alkylation zone, and higher mol. wt. polyalkylated aromatic cpds. are led to a de-alkylation zone, where they are reacted with an alkylatable aromatic cpd. in the presence of BF3 and a water-free inorganic oxide modified by BF3. The outlet from here is mixed with the outlet from the alkylation zone prior to fractionate. A monoalkylated aromatic cpd. is obtained as end-product.
|
