PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of stable detection of foreign matter being impossible, because of the specifications of a photographing lens and photographing condition and it being unable to be determined whether foreign matters can be cleaned, when luminous flux which has passed the photographing lens is used, in order to detect adhesion of foreign matter in the periphery of an imaging element. SOLUTION: This camera system is equipped with a plurality of lighting means 4a, 4b, a determining means and a distance operating means. The lighting means are installed in a camera body 1 from which the photographing lens 20 is detachable and illuminate the imaging element 15 from mutually different directions. In the state with the incidence of an external light into the camera body being shielded or limited, the element 15 is illuminated sequentially with the lighting means. On the basis of an output signal from the element 15, when the respective illuminations are performed, the determining means determines whether foreign matter is stuck to the element 15 or its vicinity, and to the sticking position of foreign matters in the direction of a photographing surface, when foreign matters are stuck. On the basis of the difference of the determined results of the respective sticking positions, when the respective illuminations are performed, the distance operating means calculates the distance from the element 15 to the foreign matters. |
