PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly replace a disk without the possibility of causing a flaw or deposition of dust. SOLUTION: In the recording and reproducing device and the disk carrying-in/ carrying-out method by which a disk loaded to a loading/ejection port is carried into a prescribed position for its recording or reproduction and the disk is carried out to the loading/ejection port from the prescribed position, escape means 2, 22 escape and hold the disk 21 carried out to the loading/ejection port 3 so that other disk 23 is loaded from the loading/ejection port 4.
