PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform appropriate error correction without increasing data capacity in the case of combining a trellis code and an expansion partial response class 4 to use. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk drive 1 makes the configuration of a data string to be four interleaves in the case of performing encoding/decoding obtained by combining the trellis code obtained by confining an encoding ratio as 16/18 with the expansion partial response class 4.
