PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor that can surely control the angle of rotation of a rotor by securing the strength of a stopper mechanism, when the stopper mechanism is provided between a metallic cover and the rotor. SOLUTION: This variable resistor has a current-collecting electrode 14 on its upper surface and an annular groove 43 around a tool-engaging groove 42 on the surface of the rotor 40. In the groove 43, a stopper section 44 is formed. From the internal margin section of the opening hole 62 of the metallic cover 60, a stopper piece 64 which is bent downward, so that the piece 64 is inserted into the annular groove 43 of the rotor 40 and controls the angle of rotation of the rotor 40 by coming into contact with the stopper section 44, is mode to protrude.
