PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical magnetic recording medium having an excellent low noise characteristic, stability of recording magnetization and suitable for super high density magnetic recording, and to provide a magnetic storage device. SOLUTION: Spike-like noise to be generated from a lined soft magnetic layer is reduced by using the vertical magnetic recording medium constituted by providing an antiferromagnetic layer 13 between a vertical magnetization film 14 and the lined soft magnetic layer 12, arranging a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 16 between the vertical magnetization film and the antiferromagnetic layer, and providing a layer consisting of the nonmagnetic intermediate layer 16 and a ferromagnetic layer (soft magnetic film) 17 between the vertical magnetization film 14 and the antiferromagnetic layer 13.
