PURPOSE: Provided is a sewing machine which easily performs stop sewing of a stitch pattern whose sewing width changes continuously with an excellent appearance. CONSTITUTION: A sewing machine comprises: a stop sewing data preparation means for preparing stop sewing data on the basis of only two pieces of data which are the stitch data of the stitch pattern at a position closest to the position to perform stop sewing on a material(6) to be sewn and the stitch data at its vicinity; and a stop sewing control means for forming stop sewing on a material to be sewn by changing the moving amount of a sewing needle(5) by a needle swing device(100) stitch by stitch on the basis of the stop sewing data over the set number of stop sewing stitches. In performing stop sewing, the feed pitch of the material to be sewn is made smaller than a prescribed feed pitch.
