The ear tag (1), consisting of one or more flat supple plates (2) marked on at least one main surface with symbols and/or alphanumerical characters and/or bar codes. At least one of the tag's main surfaces has a covering layer that acts as a screen against UV rays and a barrier against chemical attack by certain corrosive agents present in the atmosphere while being transparent to visible light rays. The protective layer is a few tenths of a millimetre thick and can be attached to the plate surface by thermo-welding, adhesive, bi-injection or spraying.
