PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for determining the input fingerprint state to determine whether or not the input fingerprint image is suitable for authentication capable of correctly determining with a simple configuration whether or not the fingerprint input from a fingerprint information input unit is suitable for the fingerprint authentication without image processing requiring a long time of calculation. SOLUTION: The input fingerprint image is divided into fine areas of the predetermined size to determine whether or not the fingerprint comprising raised lines and valley lines is present in each finely divided area, and the state of the skin surface in the finely divided area is determined. Whether or not the fingerprint image is suitable for the fingerprint authentication is determined from the result of determination of the fingerprint presence in each area and the result of the state determination. |
