PURPOSE: To provide a surface light source device and a liquid crystal display device using a light transmission plate with an inconspicuous micro-reflector array. CONSTITUTION: The light transmission plate 30 of the surface light source device to illuminate a liquid crystal panel is provided with a number of micro-reflectors 20, which are arranged on virtual lines Ki almost perpendicularly intersecting a virtual reference line S and making lengthwise intervals narrower, as further receding from a plane of incidence 33, keeping lateral intervals, on a rear surface 32. The lateral intervals are gradually reduced or sizes of the micro- reflectors are gradually increased as further receding from the reference line S on the respective virtual lines Ki. When a number of trios are constructed by extracting the micro-reflectors adjacent to each other on the arbitrary virtual lines Ki-Ki+2, the micro-reflectors belonging to each of the trios line up nearly on a straight line.
