An automobile dashboard has a molded foam plastic core with a rigid layer extending along at least part of the core and going completely around the core. The layer has a fibrous mat embedded in polymer resin. The core is made up of part cores forming ventilation ducts or component housings. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) a module comprising the dashboard with equipment fixed to it; and (b) the formation of the dashboard, comprises assembling the core from its parts, covering it with the fibrous mat, and then placing it in a mold so the resin can be injected around the rigid core. The dashboard is removed from the mold when the resin has cured. The ducts and housings are exposed by cutting.
