PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image device which is capable of displaying a stereoscopic image that can be visualized even if an image is stopped in an optional field. SOLUTION: Two image pickup devices are arranged to generate a prescribed parallax so as to obtain images for the left and right eye of a viewed. Image signals outputted from these two image pickup devices are compounded so as to provide two image regions, a left eye image region and a right eye image region, in one field of standard television signals and recorded in a recording means. The images for the right and left eye recorded in the recoding means are successively read out, the left eye image and right eye image are alternately displayed by every scanning line to form one field image, and the images are displayed on the display device 1. An odd-numbered scanning line polarized plate 43 and an even-numbered scanning line polarized plate 44, which have the relation with each other to indicate that one is non-permeable to a certain scanning line but the other is permeable, are provided on the display screen of the display device 41, and a viewer who puts on his glasses equipped with a right-eye polarized plate 46 and a left-eye polarized plate 47 which have a permeability relation corresponding to the above polarized plates is capable of watching a stereoscopic image. |
