POSITIVE ELECTRODE ACTIVE MATERIAL FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY, AND THE ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery having highly efficient discharge property, while maintaining superior charging property at high temperatures, and the alkaline storage battery using the same. SOLUTION: Solid solution particles, containing nickel hydroxide as a main component, have surface areas whose 1-30% is covered with at least one type of oxide particles selected from among yttrium, scandium and lanthanide, and whose outer peripheries are covered with cobalt oxide having a cobalt average valence number which is larger than 3.0 valence.
