PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device that suppresses a current flowing in each circuit element by reducing the electric power to a load circuit, when the voltage of a commercial power source reduces below a given value. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device comprises a source voltage reduction detecting circuit 6 for detecting a direct current voltage of a rectifying circuit 2, when the direct current voltage is reduced, for outputting a signal corresponding to the detected voltage, and an output control circuit 7 for controlling an inverter circuit 4 so that the electric power to the load circuit 5 reduces, according to the signal from the source voltage reduction detecting circuit 6.
