PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow smaller size, for a lower cost, and higher torque. SOLUTION: A rotor 1 has a rotor magnetic body 3 forming passage for magnetic flux, and multipolar permanent magnets 8A and 8B generating magnetic flux and circumferentially arrayed in the external peripheral region of the rotor magnetic body 3. The permanent magnets 8A and 8B are embedded in the rotor magnetic body 3. The surfaces of the external peripheral side of the permanent magnets 8A and 8B are formed into convex-curved surfaces 13A and 13B, or 15'A and 15'B. Since the distance between the two magnets is increased to raise the magnetic resistance, the magnetic flux leakage between the two magnets is decreased. The magnetic flux in the radial direction is reinforced corresponding to the decreased amount.
