PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the positioning speed and accuracy of a magnetic head 22 in a swing arm type magnetic head loading mechanism. SOLUTION: A carriage 20 comprises an arm part 26, a main body 36 and a pedestal part 38. The arm part 26 has a head mounting block 28 that can be turned with a spindle 30 as a center, a suspension 24 is fixed to the head mounting block 28, and a magnetic head 22 is further fixed to the top end of the suspension 24. The arm part 26 is fixed to the main body 36, and the main body 36 has a loading control lever 32 for driving the head mounting block 28 and controlling the loading and unloading of the magnetic head 22. The main body part 36 is fixed onto the pedestal part 38. A stage 40 movable to/from a magnetic disk 12 has a carriage mounting part 44 for mounting the pedestal part 38 turnably and attachably/detachably. A motor for feeding motive power necessary for a loading and unloading control is provided in the stage 40.
