The automatic piercing striker for a motor vehicle impact damper is operated by electronic impact sensors which allow powering of an electric motor (M). The motor releases a striker (7) to pierce the gas cartridge for inflation of a passenger restraint. The impact sensors (K) are connected to a relay (A).
