PURPOSE: A discharge lamp and protection device for discharge lamp is provided to protect eyesight by forming the discharge lamp to have a semi-transparent outer tube, while allowing the discharge lamp to be installed without a space restriction. CONSTITUTION: A discharge lamp(10) comprises an inner tube(12) for emitting light when a power is applied; an outer tube(14) formed around the inner tube, wherein the outer tube is at a vacuum state and formed into a semi-transparent tube so as to reduce glare and protect eyesight of a user; and a base(16) for supporting the inner tube and the outer tube. The semi-transparent tube has a plurality of convex and concave portions(18) formed at constant intervals along the outer periphery of the semi-transparent tube.
