The method involves measuring the angles of various joints, track rod parts (26) and/or drive half shafts (56) with respect to the horizontal and/or vertical. The level of the front and rear axles, and hence the overall level of the vehicle, is derived from the measured angles. The level is fed into a linear equation giving a difference angle for checking a difference angle determined by measurement.
