<p>A system and method are disclosed for configuring network access equipment by utilizing a data storage card (33) or a smart card in response to a request for service from a subscriber (11) to a network application service provider (51). The system includes a card writer (43) for writing configuration data from the application service provider (51) to the card (33), and a card reader (31) for downloading the configuration settings into the network access equipment from the card (33). The card (33) may also include provisions for authentication and non-repudiation of service configurations received via a public key cryptography system.</p> |
