PROCESS FOR PRODUCING (DIOXOLENON-4-YL)METHYL ESTER DERIVATIVE

A process by which various compounds (1) each having a carboxyl group in the molecule are esterified at the carboxyl group with a 4-chloromethyldioxolenone compound (2) and thereby converted into the (dioxolenon-4-yl)methyl esters easily and inexpensively in high yield. The process for producing a compound represented by the formula (3) is shown by the following reaction scheme. It comprises reacting a carboxylic acid represented by the formula (1) with a 4-chloromethyldioxolenone compound represented by the formula (2) in a solvent in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst and a metal iodide.
