The invention relates to an assembly for producing an optical conductor comprising at least one optical fibre. Said assembly has a first drawing device (AE1) and a second drawing device (AE2) for drawing a continuously formed conductor jacket (HL). The heated jacket material (M) of the conductor jacket is cooled during drawing along a cooling path (KS2). The conductor jacket (HL) is drawn in such a way that the optical jacket has no or negligible tensile stress along the cooling path (KS2) in the drawing direction (ZR). To achieve this, the drawing devices (AE1, AE2) have different drawing speeds (V1, V2). This allows only a relatively weak tensile force (FZ) to be exerted on the optical fibres (LF) that are to be introduced into the conductor jacket (HL), in order to compensate for a material shrinkage of the conductor jacket (HL) during the cooling process.
