The stop device for a vehicle door lock which when unlocked is openable by the operation of a hand grip via at least one pivotable transmission lever (1) and to which a stop component (9) with several teeth (10) is adjustably fixed. The stop device, in the event of an accident-determined acceleration of the vehicle or of the hand grip through mass inertia effect, assumes a stop position against the force of a spring component (4). In a stop position, a tooth of the stop component engages in a counter tooth (12) on a support wall (11), thus preventing an adjustment movement of the transmission lever into a position opening the door lock.
