Blowing agent (I) for thermoplastic polymers comprises a mixture of: (A) at least one oxide or hydroxide of a Group 2 element, iron and/or zinc; (B) at least one carbonate, hydrogen carbonate or sulfate of a Group 1 or 2 element; and (C) a natural or synthetic wax and/or a copolymer having a melting point or softening point below 100 deg C. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of foamed molded articles based on thermoplastic polymers and water producing inorganic compounds and other additives by mixing the blowing agent (I) with at least one olefinic polymer followed by known thermal treatment.
