The belt tensioning device has a tensioning roller (2), which is pressed in a yielding manner to the belt by a tensioning arm. An arresting device is included, to arrest the tensioning roller in a preset position. The arresting device has locking elements which engage positively in each other, and are loaded in a direction contrary to that of their engagement.
