A method for controlling data output. Every time identifying information for identifying the content of at least content data is read together with content data from a recorded medium to output the content data, identifying information read together with content data is latched. The output of content data read from the recorded medium is controlled depending upon whether latched identifying information satisfies a predetermined condition. The output of content data is controlled on the basis of the identifying information of the latched content data and the number of sets of medium identifying information.
