Apparatus for decoupling rolled material billets comprises supporting structures (TGI, TGII, TGIII) arranged behind each other in a roller table (RR). Each structure has a pair of vertical rollers (VRI, VRII, VRIII). The supporting frame (SR) of the first supporting structure (TGI) in the transporting direction (WR) of the roller table pivots about a horizontal axis and can be moved across it. An Independent claim is also included for a process for operating the apparatus. Preferred Features: The supporting structures are formed as cassettes which can move into and out of the roller table. Guides (ZW) for the billets are arranged between and behind the supporting structures.
