Provided is a method of treating a disease associated with keratinocyte hyperproliferation in mammalian skin, which method comprises administering to a subject an effective amount of a medicament comprising a caveolin-1 protein, or a purified or isolated derivative or precursor thereof. Also provided is a method of treating a disease associated with keratinocyte hyperproliferation in mammalian skin, which method comprises administering to a subject an effective amount of a medicament comprising a peptide mimetic comprising a low molecular weight organic molecule capable of functionally mimicking the whole or a substantial part of the amino acid peptide sequence Seq. ID 1. Additionally provided is a method of treating a disease associated with keratinocyte hyperproliferation in mammalian skin, which method comprises administering to a subject an effective amount of a medicament comprising a compound capable of stimulating the production of caveolin-1 protein.
