The overcurrent release device has a circuit (8) for detecting the waveform of the monitored current (I) flowing through the LV power switch, a memory (9) holding a number of possible waveforms and a protection module (11) controlling the release of the LV power switch, supplied with a correction factor (K) when the detected waveform corresponds to a stored waveform. An Independent claim for an operating method for an overcurrent release device is also included.
