The machine has a pick-up drum (38) with tines (40), and a cross conveyor, e.g. a conveyor belt (18,20) behind the drum. The belt transfers the hay from the drum in a direction towards the center of the machine, from where it is moved by a second conveyor belt (16) towards the back, against the forward travel direction (V) of the machine. The drum is located on a front part (56) of the machine, the conveyor belts are located on a rear machine part (54), and both parts are connected detachable to each other.
