A preferred method comprises reacting phosphoric acid and lithium hydroxide solution in amounts such that a solution of LiH 2 PO 4 is obtained, cooling this solution and reacting with further LiOH in an amount such that the ratio Li : P in the reaction mixture is less than or equal to 3. The lithium phosphate may be separated from the solution by precipitation, then after removing the liquid phase, dried and calcined at about 300‹ C. The lithium phosphate may be used as a catalyst for the dehydration of diols and epoxides to dienes (see Division C5). |
