The method involves associating a driver exclusively with a vehicle being driven and enables the association to subsequently check at any time in a legally certain manner using electronic identifiers. The associated system contains a card reader, ID card or legible drivers license, electronic memory box for card code numbers and connections. All electronic data are encoded. AN Independent claim is also included for an electronic identifier.
