Preparation of 1-hydro-2-carbo addition products (A) on the double bond of an ethylenically unsaturated compound (B) is done in presence of a catalyst (C) comprising at least one complex of a subgroup 8 metal (M) with at least one ligand (I) that includes a phosphirane structure. An Independent claim is also included for a catalyst consisting of a complex of M with at least one (I), but excluding platinum and rhodium complexes with ligands (II) Rh = isopropyl, C5F5 or 3,5-di(trifluoromethyl)phenyl.
