<p>Signals from sensors (30) of engine operating conditions are input by an input circuit to a microprocessor (10) in an electronic control unit (10), to perform various processing to control the engine based on the input signals and to act through an output circuit (22) to drive actuators (40) for the fuel injection and ignition devices. The electronic control unit has low and high priority tasks to perform updating and reference limiting.
