PURPOSE: A portable digital recorder is provided to record a more long time conference or interview with a same saving capacity of a memory and monitor the state of recording while recording. CONSTITUTION: A portable digital recorder includes a decibel measurer measuring a noise degree of an analog speech signal input from outside; an analog and digital converter converting the analog speech signal into a digital speech signal; an input processor(20) processing data of converted digital speech signal, data related to a mode selection and operation input from a key pad, data input from an external equipment(54); a control part(30) controlling to save or output the data processed at the input processor and temporarily pausing a recording operation if the noise degree is lower than a predetermined set value; a memory part(40) receiving the control signal from the controller for saving the digital speech signal; an output processor(50) receiving the control signal from the controller for processing the data to be output.
