PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the occurrence of moving picture blurring which appears to trail in a hold type display. SOLUTION: In order to realize desired luminance by means of the hold type display, a display state is shifted to the luminance of a stable state after the display state goes through a high luminance state. Thereby, the desired luminance is realized in time average luminance. In the time transition characteristics of the transmittance of the hold type display element, a solid line indicates the aspect of the transmittance change of a certain picture element of the hold type display element, and a dotted line indicates luminance transition recognized by the integration effect of the observer's eyes when the picture element causing the transmittance change of the solid line is observed. In the case of displaying a high luminance gray scale according to this hold type display element, the transmittance changes from A to B and C along the solid line. Accumulated luminance by the eyes in the case of gazing only at this picture element is shown by the dotted line in Figure. |
