PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a user's seating on a toilet seat even in the state of a user's clothes being in proximity to or in contact with the front wall surface of a casing. SOLUTION: A seating sensor 10 comprising a light emitting part 11 and a light receiving part 12 is arranged inside a easing 6 for enclosing a functional part of a sanitary washing device, in the state of being opposed to an aperture hole 6a opened to the front wall surface of the easing 6 and providing a space through which a filter 25 fitted to the aperture hole 6a cannot be detected but a user's clothes P1 or the like placed in proximity to or in contact with the front wall surface can be detected. The user's seating on the toilet seat can be detected by detecting the clothes P1 or the like by the seating sensor 10.
