PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-hydrophobic chain/two-hydrophilic group type surfactant which is high in purity and can be produced at a high yield; and a detergent composition, a hair treatment composition and a softening agent composition using the two-hydrophobic chain/two-hydrophilic group type surfactant and its ammonium salt. SOLUTION: The two-hydrophobic chain/two-hydrophilic group type surfactant can be obtained by reacting the salt of a secondary amine compound with an epihalohydrin followed by reacting with a secondary amine compound or a tertiary amine compound.
