摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material in which the adhesive strength between fibers is increased without increasing the amount of impregnation (concentration) of a binder, the peeling life of the friction material is improved, fibers are protected from slipping off during cutting processing, and the loss of strength and the deterioration of friction properties are prevented. SOLUTION: The friction material (19, 25) comprises a fiber base material (11, 13, 15) consisting of a fiber such as a natural pulp fiber, an inorganic synthetic fiber or an organic synthetic fiber, a filler such as diatom earth or cashew resin, a friction controlling agent and a binder such as a heat curing resin. The friction material has a plain surface (10, 12, 14) which is almost plain, and in which at least a part of fibers are exposed at least on a part of the surface in the longitudinal direction, or it has minute irregular surfaces (80) at least on a part of the surface.
