PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the outside diameter of a basket used for a spent fuel assembly to be smaller than conventional one. SOLUTION: A corner part A of a square pipe 300, constituting a basket, is formed stepwise. When constituting a basket with this square pipe 300, the square pipes 300 are arranged staggeredly and the stepwise parts provided in corners are combined. Thus, the inside of the square pipes 300 and the space surrounded by 4 sides 12 of the square pipes respectively become cells 400 and 401. The basket 200 arranges the square pipes 300 staggeredly, and thus the sides 12 of the cells 400 and the like are constituted of a single plate. As a result, stiffness becomes higher compared with the case overlapping two plates with a half thickness of the sides 12, and thus the thickness of the plate of the side can be made small, if the stiffness id the same. Then, the outer diameter of the basket can be made smaller.
