MODIFIED POLYASPARTIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a modified polyaspartic acid usable as an optical gloss agent. SOLUTION: (a) An unsaturated 4C dicarboxylic acid A is reacted with a nitrogen donor compound B to form a reaction mixture, (b) the reaction mixture is transferred to a reactor simultaneously with further addition of a nitrogen donor compound C, (c) the reaction mixture is treated at 120-350 deg.C to form a polymer containing repeating succiny unit and aspartamide unit and (d) the obtained polymer is hydrolyzed with an aqueous solution of a basic compound D to form a polymer containing repeating aspartic acid unit and aspartamide unit.
