PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which presence of an ink cartridge and ink therein can be detected. SOLUTION: The ink container (16) for use in the printer (8) comprises a housing (17) defining a chamber (42) for containing liquid ink (48) being supplied, and curved light guide elements (21, 22) provided on the outside of the wall (17A) of the housing (17) and having first curved reflectors (21A, 22B) and second curved reflectors (21B, 22A). When the residual quantity in a loaded ink cartridge (10) drops down to a specified level or below, the first curved reflectors (21A, 22B) reflect received light toward the second curved reflectors (21B, 22A) which reflect the received light to recede from the wall (17A) of the housing through a path parallel to that of the light received by the first curved reflectors (21A, 22B). |
